I am unable to download or update anymore apps due to an unsuccessful app, as a result of insufficient funds in the visa card. However I don't want this purchase, can i cancel it and continue or what can be done?

Purchases are considered final but you can try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support and see if they will cancel the purchase : http://reportaproblem.apple.com

If they won't you will have to pay off what you owe before you can download anything else on the account
